Faster Linetracking
A useful thing for robots to be able to do is to follow paths that have been laid out for them. They can do this by searching the ground for distinguishing marks and following those marks, or lines, to a goal. This unit will take students through the basics of line tracking, so that they can get their robots from here to there without having to measure the distance. In real world robotics projects, speed and efficiency are often important goals. For this reason, you will learn how programming and engineering can be used together to track a line quickly, without sacrificing accuracy.

Prerequisites:
Unit summary: students will…
- Follow directions to conduct a guided partial inquiry
- Learn about how the robot’s geometry inhibits its ability to track a line
- Learn how to speed up the line tracking behavior
- Experiment with different aspects of the robot’s design to come up with an optimal method for line tracking
- Appreciate trade-offs and decisions in the design process
- Write a conclusion that summarizes the information learned in the exploration
Prerequisites:
- Follow the Guidelines Activity
- Presented the Faster Line Tracking powerpoint
- Review/teach calculating thresholds
